World of Warships is a free-to-play naval combat MMO developed by Wargaming (Lesta Studio) where you command historically inspired warships in team-based 12v12 battles. The roster spans 600+ ships across 11 nations — USA, Japan, Germany, USSR, UK, France, Italy, Pan-Asia, Pan-America, Commonwealth, and European — organized into tiers I through XI and five ship classes: destroyers, cruisers, battleships, aircraft carriers, and submarines.
Combat is tactical and deliberate. Ships move slowly relative to their size, shells take seconds to travel across the map, and positioning behind islands for cover is critical. Each class plays differently: destroyers set torpedo ambushes, cruisers provide anti-aircraft and support fire, battleships deliver devastating salvos, and carriers manage squadrons from above. Learning armor angling, shell penetration mechanics, and concealment ranges is where the skill ceiling lives.
Ships are modeled on real or planned warships — the Yamato, Bismarck, Iowa, and Shimakaze are all here with historically referenced armament layouts. Progression follows tech trees: you start at Tier I with basic cruisers and research your way to Tier X flagships through experience and credits earned in battle.
The first 10-15 hours are smooth. Low-tier battles (I-IV) feature forgiving matchmaking and slower-paced combat that teaches fundamentals. By Tier V-VI you'll face the full tactical depth of positioning, angling, and consumable management. The game gives several premium ships free through early missions and events.

Yes — World of Warships is free to download and play on PC. All tech tree ships (600+) are researchable through gameplay. Premium ships offer unique playstyles and credit bonuses but don't outperform fully upgraded tech tree equivalents in raw combat stats. Premium account speeds up credit and XP earning.
Partially. Minimum specs ask for an Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM, and a GeForce GT 440. That runs low settings at 30+ FPS. For comfortable 60 FPS at medium, you'll want a GTX 960 or better. After 100+ hours on a GTX 1050 Ti, the game ran at stable 60 FPS on medium-high at 1080p.
Debated. Premium ships don't have higher stats than tech tree counterparts, but some premiums (especially removed/rare ones) have unique strengths that are difficult to counter. Fairness rating: 6/10. The strongest advantage of spending is faster progression and premium account economy bonuses — not combat superiority.
