What is Enlisted?
Enlisted is a free-to-play squad-based MMO shooter from Gaijin Entertainment (makers of War Thunder) set in the key battles of World War II. You don't control a single soldier — you command an entire squad of AI soldiers and switch between them in real time. When one dies, you instantly take control of another. Core gameplay spans infantry combat, tank warfare, and aircraft piloting, all happening simultaneously on the same map with hundreds of players.
The squad mechanic is what makes it different from every other WW2 shooter. Your squad follows you, takes cover, fires at enemies, and holds positions. You choose squad composition — riflemen, machine gunners, snipers, engineers, flamethrower operators — and equip each soldier individually. Losing your best soldier mid-battle hurts, but you keep fighting through the rest of your squad instead of staring at a respawn timer.
Weapons, uniforms, and vehicle capabilities are modeled on historical data. The game covers major campaigns — Moscow, Berlin, Normandy, Stalingrad, Tunisia, Pacific — each with period-accurate equipment. You unlock new squads, weapons, and vehicles by progressing through campaign-specific tech trees.
The first 5-10 hours are fast-paced. Matchmaking puts you into large-scale battles immediately, and the tutorial is minimal — you learn by fighting. By day 3-4, you'll have multiple squads with specialized roles. Engineers can build spawn points, sandbag positions, and anti-tank hedgehogs, adding a construction layer to the combat.

Enlisted FAQ
Yes — Enlisted is completely free to download and play on PC. All campaigns, squads, weapons, and vehicles are unlockable through gameplay. A Premium account speeds up progression and unlocks bonus squads, but all content is accessible F2P.
Partially. Minimum specs require an Intel Core i3, 8 GB RAM, and a GeForce GTX 660. That's a mid-range machine from 2012. After 40+ hours on a GTX 1050, the game ran at 40-50 FPS on medium settings at 1080p. Low settings push that to 60 FPS. Integrated graphics will not work — a dedicated GPU is required.
Partially. Premium squads offer convenience and progression speed, but don't outgun free equipment in raw stats. Fairness rating: 6/10. Skill and squad management matter more than gear — a well-positioned free sniper squad beats a premium rifle squad in bad cover.
Around 12 GB base install. Each campaign adds additional data as you progress. Keep 15-20 GB free for comfortable long-term play with multiple campaigns installed.
The squad mechanic is the differentiator. In Battlefield or Hell Let Loose, you're one soldier. In Enlisted, you're a squad leader controlling 4-9 soldiers with instant switching. It blends the accessibility of arcade shooters with the historical detail of mil-sims, landing in a middle ground that neither genre fully covers.
