What is War Thunder?

War Thunder is a free-to-play military combat MMO developed by Gaijin Entertainment where you command tanks, aircraft, attack helicopters, and warships in massive PvPvE battles. The roster spans 3,000+ vehicles across 10 nations — USA, Germany, USSR, UK, Japan, China, Italy, France, Sweden, and Israel — covering everything from interwar biplanes to modern MBTs like the M1A2 Abrams and T-90.

Three game modes define the experience. Arcade simplifies physics for fast action. Realistic adds fuel management, G-force blackouts, and historically accurate ballistics. Simulator locks you to cockpit/gunsight view with full flight modeling. You pick your depth — the same vehicle plays differently in each mode.

Combined arms is the headline feature. Tanks, aircraft, and helicopters share the same battlefield simultaneously. A Panzer IV pushes through a village while a Bf 109 strafes overhead and a Pe-8 drops a 5,000 kg bomb. Naval battles add destroyers, cruisers, and coastal boats on separate maps. No other F2P game delivers this scale of multi-vehicle warfare.

The first 20-30 hours are the best the game offers. Low-tier vehicles (rank I-III) are fast to unlock, battles are forgiving, and the variety of WW2-era equipment is massive. By rank V-VI, the grind steepens significantly — unlocking top-tier modern vehicles takes months of F2P play or premium purchases.
