What is OGame?
OGame is a free-to-play browser-based space strategy MMO developed by Gameforge, originally released in 2002 and still actively updated. You start with a single planet in a universe of galaxies, solar systems, and colonizable slots. Core gameplay revolves around three resources — metal, crystal, and deuterium — which you mine, spend on buildings and research, use to construct fleets of warships, and ultimately deploy against other players to raid their resources or destroy their fleets.
What keeps veterans playing after 20+ years is the depth of the fleet combat math. Battles are resolved through a formula-based combat system where ship types, quantities, weapons, shields, and armor interact in rounds until one side is destroyed. The Espionage system lets you scan enemy planets before attacking, and the combat simulator lets you test fleet compositions before committing. Victory goes to the player who understands the numbers, not the one who clicks faster.
You expand by colonizing additional planets (up to 9), each with its own building slots and resource production. The Lifeforms expansion (added in recent years) introduced new progression mechanics and strategic depth beyond the classic formula. Alliances form the social backbone — coordinated group attacks, diplomatic agreements, and resource sharing happen through alliance systems.
The pacing is slow by design. Building and research timers scale from minutes to days at high levels. OGame is a check-in game — you log in a few times daily to queue builds, launch fleets, and adjust production. It rewards patience and planning over active play time.

OGame FAQ
Yes — OGame is completely free to play in your browser with no download. Premium currency (Dark Matter) provides quality-of-life boosts like officer bonuses, fleet scheduling, and resource production buffs. All ships, buildings, and technologies are accessible without spending.
Yes. It runs in any browser on any device — PC, Mac, tablet, phone. No GPU, no RAM requirement beyond basic browsing. If your device has a web browser, OGame works.
Partially. Dark Matter officers provide meaningful production and fleet management bonuses. Fairness rating: 5/10. However, OGame's core competitive advantage comes from understanding combat formulas, fleet timing, and resource management — a knowledgeable F2P player routinely outperforms a careless spender.
Yes. Gameforge continues to run and update the game with new universes, the Lifeforms expansion, UI improvements, and balance patches. The community is smaller than its 2000s peak but remains dedicated, especially in European markets.
Battles are formula-based, not real-time. You send a fleet to an enemy planet; combat resolves in automated rounds based on ship stats (weapons, shields, armor), quantities, and research levels. The attacker chooses when to launch; the defender relies on stationed fleet and planetary defenses. Espionage probes let you scan targets before committing. The combat simulator tool lets you test fleet compositions offline before risking resources.
