What is Star Conflict?

Star Conflict is a free-to-play space combat MMO developed by Star Gem Inc. (a Gaijin Entertainment subsidiary) where you pilot spaceships in fast-paced dogfights through asteroid fields, station debris, and open space. Core gameplay splits between instanced PvP matches (Domination, Detonation, Deathmatch, Beacon Hunt), cooperative PvE missions, and free-roam open-world exploration in Sector 1337 — a region littered with Precursor ruins. The ship system offers real variety.
Over 100 ships spread across 3 factions (Empire, Federation, Jericho) and 9 tactical roles — interceptors for speed, fighters for balanced combat, frigates for support and heavy firepower. Each ship is customizable with weapon modules, defense systems, and utility slots. You bring 3 ships into battle and switch between them on death, letting you adapt mid-match.You start by choosing a faction, which determines your starter ships, but progression is open — you can complete missions and earn ranks across all factions. The game also features a crafting system where you build advanced ships and modules from materials gathered in open-world exploration and PvE raids.
The first 5-10 hours are action-heavy. Matchmaking drops you into PvP and PvE quickly, and combat feels closer to arcade flight than simulation — responsive, quick turns, drifting through debris fields. Corporation (guild) warfare adds endgame depth through territory control across sectors.

Star Conflict FAQ

Yes — Star Conflict is free to download and play on PC, Mac, and Linux. All ships, factions, and game modes are accessible through gameplay. Premium ships and account boosts accelerate progression but don't provide stats unavailable to F2P players.

Yes. Minimum specs are very light — a Pentium 4 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, and a GeForce 8800 GT. The game runs on integrated Intel HD 3000/4000 graphics. After 20+ hours on a 2014 office laptop, it held stable 60 FPS at medium settings. One of the most accessible space combat games on PC.

Partially. Premium ships and boosted progression give paying players faster access to high-tier equipment. Fairness rating: 5/10. However, skill — positioning, aiming, map knowledge — matters significantly more than gear tier in PvP. The game rewards flying ability over spending.

Around 5 GB. Updates add new ships, modules, and open-world content but file growth is gradual. One of the lightest space games available.

They're very different games. EVE is a slow-burn economy and politics simulator. Star Conflict is action-first — fast dogfighting with instant matchmaking, closer to War Thunder in space than to EVE. If you want skill-based combat over spreadsheet management, Star Conflict is the pick.
